The boards of the Michigan Fraternal Congress and the Michigan Fraternal Investment Counselors will be working together to plan an agenda filled with educational, informative and fun events.   www.kelloggcenter.com

 

Annual Meeting- -IMPORTANT NEWS!!

Our theme is “Fraternal Dollars at Work In Michigan”.  We are asking each member Society to

bring a display of their volunteer activities to show the invited legislators how many people are impacted by our volunteerism and community involvement.   The Michigan Fraternal Investment Counselors will be offering 7 hours of Continuing Education Classes free to registered attendees and NIFA members.  Tentative topics are “Suitability – Senior “Protection” and “Is your Clients Information Safe” given by Instructor Glenn Newlin of Gleaner Life Insurance Society on Thursday.                     

   The workshops will include “Rules of Engagement” presented by Kathryn Reither of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  Making Cards for Ronald McDonald House patients will be our Hands on Project headed by Sally Stoll, Western Fraternal Life Association.  Our Banquet speaker will be Brian Casey, Director of Government Affairs, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, on Thursday. Entertainment will be by Max and Ruth Bloomquist from Muskegon.  The Annual Meeting will be on Friday.

All proceeds will benefit the Scholarship Fund.

 

 

Annual Meeting Charities                                         

The Michigan Fraternal Congress has picked three Charities for delegates to donate items to this year.           

They are:                                                                                         

  Advent House Ministries, Inc. of Lansing –                              

In existence since 1989, they provide food, temporary housing, employment assistance and a variety of

family services including food to the economically disadvantaged.                                                                                  

  City Rescue Mission of Lansing – in existence since 1911, they provide overnight shelter & meals,

operating a food pantry that provides food as well as clothing & household items for low income

individuals & families.

 

Ronald McDonald House of Mid Michigan – Opened in 2000, serves 250 families each year

providing guest rooms with bath, TV & phone, There is a library, play room, kitchen and laundry facilities. 

 

We are asking the delegates bring the following items that these charities included in their Wish Lists.                        

Baking supplies & mixes; Bibles; Coffee (reg & decaf); Blankets; Bleach (unscented); Cereal (single serve

size) Combs & Brushes; Cups (Styrofoam 8oz & 12oz size) Deodorant (men & women) Diapers & Baby

Wipes; Pocket Dictionaries; Dishwasher Detergent; DVD’s; Dishwashing Soap; Canned Fruit; Grap &

Go Bags; Granola Bars; Cheese/Crackers; Fruit snacks; Juice Boxes; Laundry Detergent; Lotion

(for hand & body); Canned Meat; Microwave Popcorn; Napkins; Paper Towels; Pens & Pencils;

Paper & Styrofoam Plates (small & large); Disposable Razors (for Men & Women);

  JOIN HANDS DAY 2009 - On May 2, 2009,
fraternalists and nonfraternalists alike came together for JOIN HANDS DAY—to make a difference in their communities through helpful projects that connect youths and adults.
JOIN HANDS DAY gives fraternal benefit societies and volunteer organizations the opportunity to reach out to people they don’t know, to connect generations and develop new relationships.

Join Hands Day (JHD) grants

The Michigan Fraternal Congress awarded eight (8) different Societies $100.00 grants for their 2009 JHD Volunteerism during the months of April & May.  They were Women’s Life Insurance Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Gleaner Life Insurance Society, Western Fraternal Life Association, Polish Falcons of America, Greater Beneficial Union of Pittsburgh, Polish Roman Catholic Union of America and Modern Woodmen of  America. 

Projects included: assembling Birthday in a Bag and gift bags for RAVE, a Butter-fly Garden, cleaning a cemetery and a Veterans Park, painting and planting flowers at a Veterans Nursing Home, and serving dinner to the homeless. These projects are taking place in cities all over Michigan including: Saginaw, Lansing, Owosso, Clio and Clinton Township.
